More:
Joan Baez has been a generous supporter of Bread & Roses
since its 1974 founding by her sister, the late Mimi Fariña. Gabe
Harris, founder of Rhythm
Village, has generously shared the healing power of West African percussion
with Bread & Roses institutional audiences and we are honored to have him
perform at our benefit event.
Also featured in the show will be two amazing young singer/songwriters Chris
Stills and Adam Cohen, sons of Bread & Roses
friends Stephen Stills and Leonard Cohen. Chris is an acclaimed musician;
his recently released album "Chris Stills" is receiving rave reviews and
international airplay. Adam Cohen's songs showcase the gifts of a truly
accomplished musician. His album Mélancolista was composed and written in
Montreal and Paris, recorded in Los Angeles, and released worldwide to great
acclaim.
The youngest of the evening's performers, Lara Johnston
is the daughter of our good friends Tom and Diane Johnston. In addition
to performing at the benefit, Lara is also bringing hope and joy to Bread
& Roses institutional audiences with her soulful singing and youthful energy.
Legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo is blessing us by
bringing not only his full orchestra, but also his three musically gifted
children, Sheila E., Juan and Peter
Michael. Both Pete and Sheila E. are international stars in their
own right. Together with Juan and Peter Michael, they are creating a sound
and energy that truly exemplifies the healing power of music.
The benefit will be held at the Lodge, the old Masonic Lodge on the top
floor of the Regency Center in San Francisco. The Regency Center, located
at Van Ness and Sutter, is one of San Francisco's most architecturally stunning
venues. Built in 1909, this beautiful and intimate theater was also the
site of the Bread & Roses 30th Anniversary Benefit with Boz Scaggs.
Bread & Roses benefits are legendary. From the world famous acoustic concerts
at the Greek Theatre with artists including Jackson Browne, Neil Young,
Leonard Cohen and Bonnie Raitt to intimate recent events with Boz Scaggs
and Huey Lewis-Bread & Roses has consistently delivered on its promise to
present an exceptional musical program, one that money alone cannot buy.
Our recipe for success is simple: an urgent cause, an audience committed
to supporting our mission, an extraordinary concert performed by celebrated
artists, premium wine and sumptuous food, and generous recognition of sponsors
and their guests. All proceeds from the evening will help us share hope
and healing through live music with children with life-threatening diseases,
teens battling substance abuse, families living in homeless shelters, elders
experiencing the isolation of Alzheimer's Disease, and our other many San
Francisco Bay Area neighbors most in need. |
