When Jimmy Dillon took the stage to accept his Milley Award for Achievement in the Musical Arts on Sunday evening Oct. 21 at the Mill Valley Community Center, he said he felt most comfortable with guitar in hand. He reminded everyone that "the meaning of life is to find your gift" and "the purpose of life is to give it away." He then sang one of his inspiring original ballads Hold On To Your Dreams ...and don't you let them go.

Bread & Roses supporter Michael Narada Walden was there cheering Jimmy on along with emcee Leah Garchik who skillfully wove all the stories of the award winners into a seamless whole. Former Milley Award winner Mark Fishkin of the Mill Valley Film Festival was also there to congratulate Jimmy and to honor Zoe Elton for her Milley Award for Achievement in the Performing Arts.

Did you know that you can help Bread & Roses while at the same time supporting the local farmers and small businesses in Marin? Simply shop at Mill Valley Market. Through their “Shop and Give” program, Mill Valley Market will donate 2% of your total purchase to the nonprofit of your choice. Bread & Roses has been a beneficiary of this program since 2007, and we are grateful to Mill Valley Market for their support and generosity over the years.
Mill Valley Market is located in Mill Valley at 12 Corte Madera Avenue. It is a third-generation, family-run market that supports local vendors and grows and sells its own produce from farms up in Sonoma County. All of their produce, eggs and meat are fresh, organic and of the highest quality. For more information, check out their website. You can also find a recent article in the Pacific Sun’s Marinivore Magazine that features Mill Valley Market.

Bread & Roses friend Rita Abrams is in the news for the 40th Anniversary of the recording of her "Mill Valley" song! Judy Herman, one of the third graders who originally sang with her said "She was all about music and dance and joy" and we couldn't agree more...
Our founder Mimi Fariña was from Mill Valley. Based in Corte Madera since 2000, Bread & Roses' office was located in Mill Valley for 17 years across from the Depot above Strawbridge's stationery store on Throckmorton Ave. We fondly remember our time in Mill Valley "where people aren't afraid to smile and stop and talk to you awhile..." (lyrics from Rita's "Mill Valley" song...) For more information about Rita, see http://www.ritaabrams.com
