RON ARTIS II & THE TRUTH

Fall Benefit Headliner Ron Artis II & The Truth are a Hawaiian-based act who perform original funk, soul and blues with hints of that slow island groove. They are known for their soulful songwriting and storytelling with powerful lyrics. “Putting The Truth, Back in The Funk” is their motto.

Notable artists such as Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Jack Johnson and Jake Shimabukuro have recognized the burgeoning talent of the band, formed by Ron Artis II in 2015. Comprised of Ron Artis II on vocals and guitar, Stevon Artis on drums and Ernie Ecraela Jr. on bass, the band recently unveiled the video for their new single “Broken.” The track comes from their forthcoming Love Is Love studio album that is due out September 9.

DAVID LUNING

Recent winner of the 2019 NorBay Music Award for Singer/Songwriter, witty Americana songwriter and guitarist David Luning will open the evening with multi-instrumentalist Ben Dubin. Bread & Roses volunteers since 2017, David and Ben have played at homeless shelters, as well as juvenile detention and recovery centers. David's clever songwriting and deft guitar playing on upbeat songs like "Danger" from his latest CD Restless, with his sidekick Ben, a veritable one-man-band on stand-up bass, harmonica and kick-drum, captivate audiences all over.

His reputation for exhilarating live performances has earned him dates with celebrities like Jackie Greene, Dave and Phil Alvin, and Elvin Bishop, as well as headlining dates at major festivals like The Kate Wolf Music Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and BottleRock.

MEGAN SLANKARD

We are so pleased to have nationally touring singer-songwriter/guitarist Megan Slankard as Musical Host. San Francisco-based Megan has been a dedicated volunteer since 2003, performing shows for Bread & Roses at a variety of facilities, including mental heath hospitals, special needs schools, adult recovery and juvenile detention centers.

The spirited indie rocker has independently sold 40,000 copies of her five self-released albums, was a finalist in multiple national and international songwriting competitions, and is currently working on a new album with multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Alex Wong. As the folks at the Yellow Couch Sessions put it: "San Francisco's Megan Slankard has more going for her than seems reasonably fair. She's whip smart, funny, a really solid guitar player and then she starts singing and blows the (unfinished) roof off the joint."

LIVE AUCTION
It's going to be a great night of live music and fundraising to support Bread & Roses! We'll break from the music just long enough for a quick live auction featuring these two exciting items to help us raise funds to support our work, and then we'll dive back into more music to close out the night.
Gibson Les Paul Studio Tribute Guitar

The Les Paul Studio Tribute Guitar donated by the Gibson Foundation is a masterpiece of an electric instrument with tapered neck capturing the vibe, feel and tonality of a traditional Les Paul. The Satin Cherry Sunburst model is a pleasure to play, with its mahogany body, maple top and neck, a pair of Thumbucking pickups and ultra-modern weight providing classic tone, power and sustain. With a padded guitar case for easy travel, this is one of the best playing and sounding Gibson Les Paul guitars.

Magic Carpet Ride

A handmade tribal Persian carpet donated by Circle of Advisors member Jason Rezaian combined with original eye-popping magic by long-time volunteer performer Frank Olivier is a magic carpet ride you won’t see anywhere else! The rug, made with natural wool and dyes, is woven in the northeastern part of Iran by semi-nomadic tribes. Authentic Persian carpets are prized for their unique beauty and not permitted as a current import to the U.S.  Jason has also donated a copy of his recent memoir “Prisoner” about his experience as a Washington Post Bureau Chief who was unjustly imprisoned in Iran.

As part of this auction package, Frank will perform at your private party on a mutually agreed upon date. Frank’s walk-around magic is fun and engaging, customized to fit each audience and venue. He has performed for many top companies, appeared on "The Tonight Show,” played New York's Lincoln Center, as well as shows for presidents and royalty. Most recently he has produced his own “Tricks to Happiness” show and is nationally known for his “Twisted Cabaret.”  A treasured volunteer performer for Bread & Roses, he delights young and old Bay Area audiences with his humor, amazing tricks and show-stopping magic.
