Long-time photographer Peter Merts will present a slide lecture about his new book of photos called "Ex Crucible: The Passion of Incarcerated Artists" for Bread & Roses “Music & More” Virtual Book Club on Tuesday, August 16 at 4 pm. The recently published book documents the talent, dedication, creativity and authenticity of artists incarcerated in CA state prisons. A former Bread & Roses staff producer, his program will also include photos from his work over the past couple of decades as a volunteer taking photos of our institutional shows overall as well as music workshops, the Day of Peace program and other inspirational concerts for the inmates at San Quentin State Prison. In the book’s introduction, Peter credits this body of work as being a catalyst to this larger project. The book is available at bookstores in Marin County and on his website.
