Bread & Roses Board Favorite Holiday Songs

Memories of winter holidays past are filled with music! We recently asked our Board of Directors for their favorite seasonal songs. Here are some of the songs they like best at this time of year.

The number one favorite holiday song of our Board Members is Joy to the World!

Board Treasurer Catherine Less says “It makes me happy!” Kay Tittle said the song reminds her why “I love the holiday season!” Chris Gorog chimes in that “John Fahey’s version is my favorite.”

Cathy Less also really likes Light One Candle by Peter, Paul and Mary and says the message of “don’t let the light go out” really speaks to her. For a beautiful Ukrainian song with great harmonies she also recommends the Carol of the Bells.

Alex Wellins likes Adam Sandler’s Chanukah Song from Saturday Night Live (1994). He fondly “remembers laughing so hard when first performed during the Weekend Update, especially at all of the pop culture and celebrity mentions he wove in.”

Adam Fells says he never fails to be touched by Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.

Matt Jaffe likes Fairytale of New York by The Pogues – “I love it because its genesis was Elvis Costello challenging the songwriters, Shane MacGowan and Jem Finer, to write a successful Christmas song.”

Philip Pillsbury likes his wife’s favorite song The Holly and the Ivy as well as Silent Night – “I cry every time it’s performed live.”

May all the beautiful songs you hear at this time of year continue to bring you joy!
